Each 5Rhythms class is a unique and rich experience. It is a chance for you to drop out of your mundane daily rituals, and into the juicier parts of yourself. The parts that are yearning to be free, to be seen, to be witnessed, and to be released. It is an opportunity for your inner rock star to come to the stage. It is a chance to be held in a safe container amidst your pain or grief. It invites you to wake up to your soul's yearnings, to free your body to move however it wants to at any given moment. On these dance floors we learn how to turn our suffering into art. We learn how to hold each other in a sacred container, and how to fully let go of all that we are holding that no longer serves us. This practice is so much more than just a dance class. It is a spiritual path. Like any spiritual path, it requires commitment and discipline to show up, and stay true to ourselves. Like Gabrielle's famous quote: "Do you have the discipline to be a free spirit?" All you need to do is be willing to show up, and I will meet you there.
Each class is gently facilitated by Julie, and is set to a rich sound-scape of diverse world beats. The music is carefully crafted each week to provide the opportunity to drop deep into the beat, to forget oneself for a moment and allow oneself to be carried by the music. Music follows a Wave format - moving through the 5Rhythms of Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness. Each week there will be a certain theme, or rhythm that the class is loosely guided by, and the music selected to reflect this. There are no steps to learn in this practice, and no choreography to follow. Classes can be attended individually, as they do not build on each other. No previous dance experience is necessary. The weekly class is equally wonderful for the seasoned dancer to deepen into the practice, and for the newcomer to come out and test the waters.
As we are now in these strange times of COVID-19, classes will look a little different than in the past. All COVID-19 protocols will be followed. You will be encouraged to wear a mask in the "foyer" upon check-in, and when physical distancing is not possible. You will be required to sanitize your hands upon entering the Hall, and your info will be recorded for purposes of contact tracing. Masks will NOT be required for dancing, although you may choose to wear one. I will have the side doors open to increase the ventilation in the space, so please wear an extra layer on these cool fall evenings. OUR CAP FOR DANCERS AT THE ROBERTS CREEK HALL IS 25.
