Julie’s love and passion for this practice comes from her many years of being on the dance floor herself, experiencing and witnessing transformation first hand. She has personally experienced the shedding and transformation of layers of herself into joy, and creative self-expression. It is the power of this practice to transform and heal that has inspired her to become certified as a 5Rhythms® Teacher, offering classes and workshops on the Sunshine Coast, and throughout British Columbia. Julie began practicing the 5Rhythms in 2001. She immediately knew she was ‘home’ as she experienced more joyful expression and freedom in her mind and body on the dance floor than anywhere else. She says: “I dance to remember who I am, and to fall in love with myself over and over and over again.”
Bodywork Credentials and Background: Julie obtained certification as a Jin Shin Do® Bodymind Acupressure practitioner and holds an Esalen Massage® certificate. Julie says: "My curiosity about the body-mind connection first led me to the path of Jin Shin Do (Way of the Compassionate Spirit). I studied this practice in-depth, which combines Chinese 5 Element Theory, traditional acupressure points and Bodymind Counselling. The early sessions I received on the table were so transformative and healing that I knew I needed to study this path and become a practitioner of it myself. I completed my final exam in 1997, and began a thriving private practice. Eventually, I found myself wanting to expand my skills and tools that I could offer people in a bodywork treatment. This led me to the Esalen Institute in California, where I completed the Massage Certificate Program (2001). An Esalen Massage is very akin to a Swedish Massage, incorporating long, sweeping strokes, inviting deep relaxation and tension release. To compliment this work, I studied Reiki, receiving my Reiki Level 3. As a movement and 5Rhythms® dance teacher, I understand the importance of taking care of the body, and I'm passionate about helping people find relaxation, release, and freedom in their bodies through my bodywork sessions." In addition to the above credentials, Julie holds a B.A. in Philosophy from Queens University, as well as a B.Ed from Simon Fraser University.
